The Health Benefits of Exercise
Quality of life, live better and longer by avoiding major disease. “I feel like if there was a magic pill for our health it would be exercise and good nutrition.” Prokey Arger “Beyond thinking of physical activity and exercising as recreation, it absolutely is medicine, it’s the best medicine known to man,” says Glen E. Duncan, professor and chair of W.S.U. Department of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology. When you do something like physical activity, it affects the entire body. We were meant to move and keep moving. Studies have shown over and over how beneficial exercise is to our full body health and quality of life. Scandinavian studies have shown that being fit also helps to reduce chances of acquiring dementia. Stateside studies have also shown exercise to help slow the declines of Parkinson and Alzheimer disease. The heart is a muscle and one that needs to be exercised. I like to think of exercise as obtaining freedom, balance, strength and mobility. They are the cornerstones of freedom and independence.
